THE DARKEST HOUR (Cry of an angel) Season 1 Episode 20

The road in which the twins hurried through leaving Faith and Adaku behind had a pot-hole with stagnant water. A 4Runner car drove out gently. It had a red colour with voluminous tyres. Chief Dike was the driver. Meanwhile, the music by the women continued for the edification of the audience traditionally.
When Faith and Adaku saw the twins briskly going home, they followed them.
"These twins.." Adaku crumbled under her breath. Before they met them, the car had already gotten to the twins. Unluckily, it was at the nitch of the stagnant water. The front tyre galloped into it and water splashed on Udoka since she was at the closer position. She looked at her cloth, glanced at the movin car then hissed.
"What an insolent act?!" Faith approached.
"See this man oh!" Adaku held Udoka's cloth lookin at the stained potion. Immediately, she pursued the car. On getting there, it stopped then Chief Dike came out. His physical appearance rendered Adaku speechless: huge body extended with bugged stomach. He wore a long traditional caftan that had the same colour with the trouser. On his feet were black pointed shoes. A huge traditional bead hung on his neck and wrist.
"Goo.. good evening sir" Adaku frowned.
"Young girl.." chief Dike paused when the other girls also came. He looked at the twins steadily. They had a minor resemblance of his late brother, Mr Williams. Being a smart girl, Udoka sensed a suspicion from his gaze.
"Sir, you splashed me.."
"Oh, sorry darling" Chief Dike interrupted after realising himself. He went to the extent of touching Udoka's body, therefore, Faith rolled her eyeballs again.
"I can see both of you are twins. What are your names?"
"Linda and Hannah" Udoka replied instantly then all the girls stared at her amazingly.
Chief Dike wanted to become more inquisitive and offered them money but they rejected and excused themselves.

Adaku didn't even wait for them to cross the first river, she stopped the motion of all.
"Adaku, what again?" Udoka asked.
Adaku placed her two hands on the waist, walked round, and clapped hands dramatically. "Wonders shall never end! First, both of you changed the story of coming to Ndiogoro village to going to the bush before your mother. Secondly, Monica said that she's no stranger of Ndiogoro on our way coming. Now, tell me again, when did your names become Linda and Hannah? Gwam!" she flipped her fingers on air and back the twins.
"I didn't want the man to know our names" replied Udoka.
"Why?" Faith asked.
"Coz he's a total stranger! Moreover, my spirit didn't accept his presence"
"Hmm... always having excuses" Adaku led the way followed by the girls. Everywhere became silent before Faith shouted, "Look at the masquerad!!" All screamed and took on their heels but finally began to laugh..

Mrs Williams had been worried for not seeing her daughters for the past six hours. That was unusual. She sat at the varander waiting for them hopefully. She clenched both her teeth and seat angrily as she gazed at the local ceiling. Suddenly, she heard footsteps then straightened up to behold her daughters standing before her. Udoka tried hard to hide the stained part of her cloth while Monica met her mother on the seat. She placed her hand on her shoulder with a smile then greeted her.
"From where are both of you coming?"
"Mother, we just went to have fun with our friends" Monica replied.
"Yes, mother" Udoka smiled to cover up the lies. "I'm beginning to like the village"
The last statement gave joy to their mother. Therefore she smiled a bit.
"I'm only happy both of you didn't come back late. By the way.." Mrs Williams changed tone. "I thought both of you suppose to go to the bush in search of mushrooms"
"We postponed it mother" replied Monica. She left her Mother then hurried inside with her sister to avoid more query.

9:00pm
Darkness covered Eziukwu village. By then, Mrs Williams had gone to bed while the daughters remained at the backyard. The chirping of cricket could be heard at a nearby bush. Monica wasn't looking happy. Therefore, she tends to move to and fro.
"My spirit didn't just accept that man that doused my body" Udoka broke the silence.
"That's not my problem!" Monica stopped. "We are living a fake life! Ever since i started having this strange dreams and David coming into your picture, we have been lying here and there even to our mother!" she moved closer to her sister. "Tell me, how many lies have we lied today?"
Udoka giggled. "You are good at that. Why complaining?"
"I don't just like it"
"Then get use to it coz it's just the beginning"
"What do u mean?"
Udoka's face changed to seriousness. She clenched her teeth and glanced at Monica.
"We are going to the Dark forest of Ndiogoro to see or know that which our father wanted to see or know since we know the road to it now" she replied.
Monica's heart began to beat faster after hearing her sister. She speechlessly took another seat beside her...
